Spoken Word

Posted by: Chrissie Turkington on: January 9, 2007

Yesterday I attended a presentation by Iain Wallace of Glasgow Calledonian University looking at the Spoken Word project which he is involved in and also Library 2.0 technologies.  Here are some tips and links that I picked up from the day…

Spoken Word – material can be used by any educational establishment, all you need is an .ac.uk email address.  Register at http://www.spokenword.ac.uk/  There’s loads of BBC content in here and it’s all FREE!  It’s all based on the Fedora Open Source repository.  http://www.fedora.info/

Web 2.0 tools:
Bebo: Social Networking Site http://www.bebo.com/
Flickr: Photo Management and Sharing http://www.flickr.com/
LibraryThing: Online Book Catalogue (it’s not as nerdy as it sounds although I’m still trying to find an application for it) http://www.librarything.com/
MySpace: Another networking site where all the famous people hang out http://www.myspace.com/
Connotea: Online reference management http://www.connotea.org/
43 Things: More Social Networking (just how many are there?) http://www.43things.com/
LiveJournal: Start your own journal http://www.livejournal.com/
Technorati: Find out what’s happening on the web right now http://technorati.com/
CiteuLike: Add your site and automatically generate the Citation – brilliant! http://www.citeulike.org/
WPOpac: An opac based on the WordPress blog: http://maisonbisson.com/blog/post/11133/

All the links and hopefully the presentation will be added to Iain’s blog sometime soon: http://libraryfutures.wordpress.com
